Entry Requirements

You will need a C grade at GCSE in English and Mathematics or equivalent for secondary positions and also Science for posts in primary schools. Specific equivalency tests will be accepted in lieu of English and Mathematics GCSEs at the discretion of the alliance.

Applicants should be graduates, normally with upper second class degrees or above, although we welcome applicants with lower second class degrees who demonstrate a real aptitude for teaching. For secondary applicants, generally, at least 50 per cent of the degree content should be directly related to the subject to which the application is being made. Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are available for some subjects such as Mathematics and Physics for those who wish to apply without a closely related degree.

We value candidates who can prove that they understand the educational context in which they wish to train and welcome applications from those who have recent experience in schools or those who are committed to gaining this prior to the start of the training year.

All candidates who are successful at interview will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in order to ensure that they are ‘suitable to teach’.
